Canadian Legacy Project
As part of her transition to civilian life - Alaina - owner of the Polka Dot Wheelbarrow, invested time in herself by taking the Veteran Business Bootcamp offered by the Canadian Legacy Project.
After completing the course successfully, Alaina applied for the Canadian Legacy Project Grant which supports Veterans in their entrepreneurial adventures.
The Polka Dot Wheelbarrow was granted funding to teach Veterans Beekeeping and to build a specialized “Honey House” needed to harvest honey.
Established in 2008, the Canadian Legacy Project aims to support Canadian Veterans in their time of need. As a registered charity, our mission is to develop and fund programs not currently offered or adequately supported by Veterans Affairs. In addition, the Canadian Legacy Project advocates on behalf of Canadian Veterans, recognizes and celebrates their service, and educates the public about the sacrifices made by those who have stood guard for Canada.

Women Warriors Healing Garden
In 2023, Alaina signed up for a Beekeeping course at the Women Warriors Healing Garden and the rest is history!
Our mission is to provide research-informed peer support and mental health programming to Canadian veterans, who are also visible or invisible minorities, and who are living with anxiety, PTSD or other effects of trauma.
We offer a variety of therapeutic programs in clearly defined "safe spaces," including peer support, peer support training, community gardening and animal assisted therapy.
All programs are facilitated by volunteers and supported by funding from community and government partners. They are available at no cost to eligible Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) service members and CAF, and allied, veterans.
